The Misadventures of Nox
So my dog (who is like eighty pounds too heavy) decided it would be fun to jump on my bed and crawl all over me. Well, she succeeded in tearing off the "3" key from my keyboard so I'm left with this weird hole on my laptop... Of course, just because the key is gone, doesn't mean I can press the knob thingy that's there to make it work... But thus, the number 3 has been expelled from our numeric system.

Use the other "3", then. Your keyboard has a numberpad and a number line, right?

My old one did. (New laptop now, it sucks. My old one (with the missing 3) went kaput.) Now, I do have a number three, only one, but it's fully intact. :D

Reminds me of Amateur Transplants song, "Typo". [link]

I find this, and that, enjoyable. Fortunately have avoided any such mishaps myself so far.

This is not helping the sortage of 3's! I'll have to use chippermonkey more often now! :noes:

Please tell me you know what I'm referencing.

Pfpfpfhh, who the heck uses three anyway? See, I was just able to ask that question without even typing it. So much for a magic number.

Well, THAT sux :X Did he ate the 3-key, or can you put it back? Or what about ordering a key replacement? (I'm sure you're not the ONLY laptop user with an opinionated pet regarding our numeric system and in need of a new key :greetings:)

I can still press the little knob it left, so it's okay. And as for the pieces, I just couldn't fit them back on. My dog found little interest in them other than tearing them off with her big claws. :P

isn't there usually two keys on a keyboard that are assigned to the number three??? my laptop has two, one in the normal spot and one off to the right hand side of the keyboard.

This is on my laptop. Not all laptops have the number pad on the side.

Depends. I don't think most laptops have the side panel numbers. Some of them do have a shift enabled set on some of the letters but if they're anything like my laptop there's just the one set.

i did something similar :I
i decided it would be a good idea to set my tablet down on my laptop's keyboard, get up, and go grab something. I ended up tripping over the wire and lifting about half of my spacebar off the keyboard... I have a shard of the connector thing that keeps the key connected to the keyboard floating around under the keys, and i believe it's residing under my "z" key cause occasionally i hit it and it doesnt respond. Same with the one side of the space xD
At least you can still tap the 3 knob and have it work every time xDDD

Well, at least it's not stuck under a more commonly used key. :) And I always trip over my wires... I should learn by now to keep them more organized. :P

Ahaha, i wish i could say that, but i tend to use hotkeys such as Ctrl + Z and Ctrl + V for things xDD
Ikr? it's like that magical moment where you lay a neatly wrapped pair of earbuds down on a table and come back a day later and they're all tangled.

I completely forgot about that. I forget that I even use hotkeys, but I use them A LOT. And I get what you mean with the ear buds. I usually wrap mine around my Zune (but the curl is usually what messes them up, so I kinda go through them quick.)

Heh, handy little things, aren't they~ I know what you mean, using them enough you don't realize you do it.
Luckily i haven't ruined a set yet to curl... although i think sticking them in my pockets doesn't help. I took a pair out of my pocket one day and apparently one of them was (and still is) squashed in a weird way :I they're not even in my back pockets xD amazingly i can still hear out of it.

I love hotkeys. I always laugh when someone selects all their text, right clicks, selects copy, then goes to File -> New to make a new document or something, then right clicks and selects paste... it's like WHAT THE HELL!?!?! I go CTRL+A, CTRL+C, CTRL+N, CTRL+V and I'm done in like 1.8 seconds...

Oh lord, right? It's really painful, too.
I actually have no clue what the Crtl+A does xD And i hardly ever use Ctrl+N.
But yes, hotkeys make my life sooo much easier. Whenever i see someone highlight and all that fun stuff i try and show them the hotkeys... They always give me one of those :iconwtfboomplz: faces... They just don't understand xD

I do it so quick that people I show just think I'm a witch or something. XD
And CTRL+A selects all for whatever window you have active. And I use CTRL+N for anything, new browser window, new document, et cetera. But I actually use CTRL+T for new tab in browsers more than opening new windows. :)

That's okay. On my last keyboard, I'd rubbed off the letters E, D and S, so I had a trio of mystery keys to confuse anyone not familiar with a keyboard.

I'm actually super surprised that none of my keyboard's key labels have faded or scratched off. Amazing, really. I use it so much. I'm always typing on it.

This kind of remind me of a book I read once, where the main character bought an old typewriter with the "E" missing. The character then just used * in place of the "E", which got other people confused. (it was a quirky little book)

The book was actually printed with *s instead of Es? That's pretty cool and--I bet--annoying to read. :D

No, no. I didn't mean the actual book was written with *s instead of E's; I meant the main character of the book was a journalist, and his broken typewriter was a goofy part in the plot. It was one of the books in the "Cat Who" series (it's a mystery series about a fictional journalist who has two mystery-solving Siamese cats. Has nothing at all to do with time-lords. :) )

It's written by Lillian Jackson Braun, and the first book is The Cat Who Could Read Backwards.

According to Wikipedia, there are 29 books in the series, though the books never end on cliffhangers so there's no pressure to read them all (I've only read 10 or so). They do make more sense if they're read in order though, because they are written chronologically. (I read one out of order one time, and was left wondering why the main character was living in a renovated barn... Yeah, the story can be a bit quirky.)

If there is no number "3" on your Keyboard than how could you write this?

The key I refer to is the plastic coating with the character. The little pressure sensitive bit is still there. It's more difficult to press though and a lot smaller. :/

It's explained in the description. The nub is still there, but the key itself is gone, so she can still make 3s.
